Yoga Teacher, Always a Student: A New Chapter in Yoga Therapy 26/03/26

There’s something humbling about being a beginner again.

After a decade of teaching, holding space and guiding others through their practice, I’ve recently stepped back into the role of student as I began my studies in Yoga Therapy training on the weekend.

There’s a new depth to this work - a new language, new ways of listening and seeing. Moments where I feel clear and connected… and others where I’m still finding the words.

But this is the beauty of a beginner’s mind.
To allow space for learning.
To trust that understanding unfolds over time.

For me, this training will take a few years, I’ll be slowly working through modules and assessments, integrating and reflecting. Not rushing (because let’s face it, I’ve got two young children and I am running my own business here), but gently chipping away, allowing it to feel embodied and true.

It’s a deeply personalised and holistic approach that looks beyond the surface. It weaves together yogic traditions, movement, breath, mindfulness, and conversation to support the whole person - physically, mentally, emotionally and beyond.

It also opens the door to working more closely with people navigating chronic conditions and ongoing health concerns, offering gentle, tailored support alongside their existing care.

Yoga therapy isn’t only about one-on-one sessions either. Qualified yoga therapists are working within hospitals, integrative health clinics, and mental health settings, supporting people through cancer care, anxiety, trauma and more. They’re running therapeutic group programs and collaborating with other healthcare providers like physiotherapists, psychologists, GPs, all to offer care that is more connected, supportive and whole.

And while I’m still at the beginning of this journey, I can already feel the depth it will bring to the way I support others in the future.

For now, I’m learning to sit with all that I’m learning.
To soak it all in.
To trust the process.

To be a beginner again.

And maybe that’s something we can all return to, on and off the mat,
a willingness to stay open, curious and gently evolving.

So thank you for being here. I hope this evokes a little inspiration or clarity within you too… a reminder that it’s never too late to begin, to start something new, to be a beginner.

Much love,
Kate
